Here at SCC, we offer a variety of courses, from Introductory to Advanced. We are adding new classes and new courses all the time. With citizens buying firearms at a rate higher than ever before in history, we are working constantly to offer new opportunities for learning. Review our current classes offered below.
Each of our courses is designed to be very easy to understand, and easy to apply for. Each course page will have the following:
- Course Requirements – any prerequisites you might need to have before taking the course, the cost of the course, and how many hours the course requires.
- Course Description – A detailed summary of what you will learn in the course.
- Must Have – a full list of materials you will need when you show up for the class.
NRA Basic Pistol (Popular for Beginners)
Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.
Advanced Pistol
This course begins with the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, parts and operation, ammunition and shooting fundamentals, and range rules, then proceeds to move on to advanced tactics such as proper stance, proper draw, firing from the draw, advanced sight acquisition, and shooting while moving.
NC Concealed Carry
The North Carolina Concealed Carry Class is open to law abiding U.S. Citizens who are at least 21 years of age and wish to carry a concealed handgun for their personal or family’s safety. In this course, you will gain the required knowledge of handgun safety, along with learning about responsible carry and how to gain the needed proficiency skills with a firearm. Also there will be instruction on the laws and the obligations of the concealed handgun carrier. Upon the successful completion of this course you will receive a certificate from the NC Justice Academy which will be needed to apply for a Concealed Carry Handgun Permit with the Sheriff’s office in the county you reside.
This Permit class will be a minimum of eight hours as required by the State of North Carolina.
